Autogenerate product codes

In Stockagile you have the possibility to automatically generate product codes based on product attributes such as brand, category, subcategory or season, combining them according to the template you configure. You can also choose a simple, incremental counter instead of an attribute-based template. This way you can clearly identify a product just by reading the code.

Requirements for autogenerating a product code

  • The user must have the role of OWNER, RETAIL MANAGER, INVENTORY MANAGER or PRODUCT EDITOR. You can see the different types of roles in the section Create or edit a user.

  • The user must have the role of OWNER to be able to edit the code generation rule in Default Serial Numbers Configuration.

Steps to auto-generate a product code

  1. Go to the PRODUCTS screen located in the side menu under the CATALOG section.

  2. Click on the NEW PRODUCT button

  3. Inside the product creation pop-up, tick the "Autogenerate code" checkbox next to the Code field. This checkbox is also available in the advanced creator, which you can reach from the "You can also use the advanced creator" link.

  4. Fill in the fields used by the code template (for example brand, category and subcategory).

  5. From now on, every time you change the attributes configured in the template (for example brand, category and subcategory), Stockagile will automatically create a code combining the codes of those attributes. For example, given the brand "SA – Stockagile Brand", category "008 – Earrings" and subcategory "Pen – Earrings", with the default template {brand}{category}{subcategory}.{counter} Stockagile creates the code SA008Pen.00001. If a product with that code already exists in the system, Stockagile automatically increases the final counter (for example, SA008Pen.00002).

  6. If you want to change how codes are generated, you can go to the Default serial numbers screen. There you can choose between Product Code Template, where you define your own combination of attributes using placeholders such as {brand}, {season}, {category}, {subcategory}, {composition}, {group}, {origin}, {size}, {color} and {counter}; or Product Counter Serial Number, a simple, incremental counter if you'd rather not base the code on the product's attributes.

Step 3: "Autogenerate code" checkbox in the New product pop-up

Step 6: Product code template and variant SKU code template
