Given the same product reference, it may have different variants such as sizes, colors, sizes, tastes, memory, capacity, etc. In order to determine these variants, Stockagile allows you not only to manage them but also to group them by categories (e.g. by color palette, by size type, by CPU speed type, etc.).
The ideal would be to create as many variant categories as you have product types, for example "Coat sizes", "Shoe sizes", "Bottle sizes", "Taste types", "Smell types", "Frame sizes", "RAM memories", "Power", etc. Once you have the different categories, you can add the different variants, for example:
- Coat sizes: 40, 41, 42, ...
- T-shirt sizes: XS, S, M, L, ...
- Colors: Black, Pink, White, ...
- Ram memory: 8Gb, 16Gb, 32Gb, ...
- CPU: 2.5Gz, 2.5Gz, 3Gz, ...
- Milliliters: 33ml, 100ml, 120ml, ...
- Frame sizes: 20×20, 20×30, 20×40, ...
When creating a product, selecting a size variant and a color variant is mandatory, in this case, you can create and select the variants "One Color" and "One Size" or even "No Color" or "No Size", although it is understood that there should always be one. Detailing as much as possible will help you in the future for reporting and analytics, so it is worth at least putting a color and size.
Requirements for creating, editing and deleting variants
- The user must have the role of OWNER, STORE MANAGER or WAREHOUSE MANAGER. We can see the different types of roles in the section Create or edit a user.
- Variants are always linked to a category of variants, since they always belong to the same family (e.g. category: color → variant: pink, blue) , so to create a variant you must have created a category of it beforehand.
Steps to create a variant category
- Go to the drop-down menu at the top right with the user name and click on the CONFIGURATION option.
- Enter the VARIANT CATEGORY option.
- In the list of variants, click on the NEW CATEGORY button located at the top center.
- Fill in the following pop-up data.
- Code: variant category code (e.g. initials, by numbers, etc.), used for abbreviations in reports.
- Name: the name of the variant category.
- Generic name (web): here you can specify if you want this variant category to appear with another name in your ecommerce, in case you have it synchronized.
- Position: the position in which you want it to appear whenever we have a report, list or drop-down menu.
- Finally, you must choose whether it is a size or color category.
- Finally click the SAVE button, located at the bottom right of the pop-up, and you will see the table of variant categories refresh and the one you just created will appear. If there are many variant categories, depending on how they are ordered in the list, the new variant category may appear on another page in the list.

- Position: the position in which you want it to appear whenever we have a report, list or drop-down menu. Above all, it helps in stock tables since for example XS, S, M, L, XL would not be sorted if you sort it alphabetically.
- Category: you must select the category to which you belong, only existing categories can be selected (if you had a category selected before clicking on NEW VARIANT, it will be pre-selected).
- Finally click on the SAVE button, located at the bottom right of the popup, and you will see the variant table refresh. If you click on the category of the variant in which you have just added the variant, the one you have just created will appear. If there are many variants, depending on how they are ordered in the list, the new variant may appear on another page in the list.

Replace, edit or delete a variant
- If you want to replace one variant with another, such as all products with size variant "L" with size variant "Large", you can do so by clicking on the first icon to the right of each variant you want to replace. This icon is two arrows, each pointing in one direction.
- To edit a variant, you have to click on the pencil icon, which can be found to the right of each variant. You will be able to edit the same fields as when you created the variant.
- To delete a variant, you can do so by clicking on the trash can icon. Keep in mind that you can only delete variants that are NOT associated with a product, so you will first have to replace this variant with another variant and then delete it.
