In Stockagile, barcodes can be used on product variants to identify and search for items more quickly.
Requirements for editing product barcodes
- The user must have the role of OWNER, STORE VENDOR, STORE MANAGER or WAREHOUSE MANAGER. You can see the different types of roles in the section Create or edit a user.
Types of EAN/UPC barcodes
EAN/UPC codes are the type of barcodes used by virtually all consumer products and are the most widely used GS1 standards. Within this family are the EAN-13, UPC and EAN-8 types, all of which are supported by Stockagile:
- EAN-13: it is the most common and is distinguished by having 13 digits.
- UPC-A: it is distinguished by having 12 digits.
- EAN-8: distinguished by having 8 digits.

In addition to these types of barcodes, Stockagile also allows you to use CODE-128, which allows you to barcode any text of letters and numbers.
Steps to modify a variant barcode
Before defining the barcode for a variant, Stockagile must be told which type of barcode the product uses. To do this:
- Go to the side menu and click on the PRODUCTS button in the CATALOG section.
- The list of products will appear, click on the product you want to modify.
- Once inside the product sheet, click on the DETAILS tab.
- In the Barcode Type field, in the STOCK section, you can change which type of barcode this product uses.
Step 4: Barcode type field
Editing the barcode of a variant
To change the barcode of a particular variant follow the steps below from within a product screen:
- Once inside the product sheet, click on the VARIANTS tab.
- In the variant table you will see a column named after the product's barcode type (EAN-13, UPC-A, EAN-8 or CODE-128). Here you can edit the barcode in cohesion for each variant. ⚠️ Important note: not all numbers are valid barcodes. EAN-13, UPC-A and EAN-8 have a validation digit. In this case, if you enter a number with the wrong validation digit, the program will not let you save it.
- In case you want to auto-generate a barcode based on the Barcode Configuration, just click on the blue button to the right of the code and Stockagile will give the next free code.
