Common errors in product imports

Updated over 6 months ago

This article addresses some of the most common errors that can occur during a product import; mistakes that are easy to make when filling out the product template, but also simple to correct in order to achieve a successful import:

  • Name: The value of this field must be the same across all variants of this product.

This error occurs when the same product (with different variants) has the same associated code but different names. For example:

  • Code: The value of this field must be the same across all variants of this product.

This error occurs when the same product (with different variants) has the same associated name but different codes (similar to the previous error, but the opposite). For example:

  • Code, Size (name), Color (name): The combination of these fields must be unique, and there cannot be any repetitions.

This error occurs when there are two repeated/duplicated variant combinations for the same product in the Excel file (two or more rows with the same combination of "Size" and "Color" variants). For example:

Important to Note: Even if the codes for the duplicated "Size" or "Color" variants are different, the importer will interpret them as the same variants, and the error will still be detected. For example:

The same applies to the barcodes of the variants; even if the barcodes of the variants are different, the importer will interpret them as the same variants.

To prevent the error from being detected, both the code of the variants and the variants themselves must be different/unique:

  • Code, Barcode: The combination of these fields must be unique, and there cannot be any repetitions.

This error occurs when the same barcode is duplicated in the file (1, 2, 3, or more times); barcodes must be unique. For example:

  • Stock: This value must be numeric.

This error occurs when any NON-numeric value is entered in the field related to the stock of the products (decimal numbers cannot be used; they must be whole numbers). For example:

  • Tags: The value of this field must be the same across all product variants.

This error occurs when different tags are set for the same product across its various variant combinations:

  • Price Excluding Taxes (Product): The value of this field must be the same across all variants of this product.

This error occurs when the same product has different associated selling prices (for its variants). For example:

When it is necessary to apply different selling prices to the same product (to its variants), the field "Prices with/without taxes (variant)" should be used, which is the field that has "variant" in parentheses:

  • DDP Price (Product): The value of this field must be the same across all variants of this product.

Similar to the previous error, this occurs when the same product has different associated cost prices (for its variants). For example:

When it is necessary to apply different cost prices (DDP) to the same product (to its variants), the field "DDP Price (variant)" should be used, which is the field that has "variant" in parentheses:

  • Code, Name, Size (name), Color (name), Season (name), Brand (name), Category (name): Cell is empty. This value is mandatory.

Occurs if any row in the file is empty, for required columns or fields (row or rows other than those at the end of the file). For example:

This error can also occur for each of the mandatory fields individually; the error occurs when these fields/cells are empty:

    • Code: The cell is empty. This value is mandatory.

    • Name: The cell is empty. This value is mandatory.

    • Size (name): The cell is empty. This value is mandatory.

    • Color (name): The cell is empty. This value is mandatory.

    • Season (name): The cell is empty. This value is mandatory.

    • Brand (name): The cell is empty. This value is mandatory.

    • Category (name): The cell is empty. This value is mandatory.

  • Tax Type: This value must be decimal & This value must be greater than or equal to 0.

These two errors occur when a NON-numeric value or a negative value is entered. For example:

IMPORTANT: The tax must be written WITHOUT the percentage symbol (%).
